The Idea
We love cereal! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and cereal is a great way to start your day on the right foot. While on the phone with a gluten-intolerant friend one evening in 2008, Hajo learned first hand about the limited variety, limited availability, and often mediocre taste of gluten-free cereal. Having realized the challenge of finding a variety of tasty gluten-free cereal, he and a group of students at UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School came up with a plan to transform the gluten-free breakfast world.
After months of hard work, Custom Choice Cereal came to life in October 2009. We make your taste our priority, which is why we let you design your personal gluten-free cereal with only the ingredients you love!
We understand the very specific needs and concerns of being on a gluten-free diet and decided to address them by:
-choosing only the highest quality ingredients
-focusing exclusively on gluten-free items
-testing all of our ingredients for gluten and potential cross-contamination
-maintaining a dedicated gluten-free facility
-delivering your personal mix conveniently to your doorstep
We strive to make your online mixing process a fun experience while at the same time providing interesting and useful information about each of our ingredients.
Custom Choice Cereal was founded with the mission to bring taste and variety to the gluten-free breakfast bowl. We aim to enable everyone to enjoy great tasting gluten-free cereal.
We figured that the best way to accomplish this is by letting you create your own cereal from a variety of high quality ingredients. Since not everyone lives close to a specialty food store, we deliver your personal mix conveniently to your doorstep.
But there is more to that! It is our goal to raise awareness for celiac disease and gluten intolerance in order to reduce and ultimately eliminate the unnecessary suffering that results from a false or missing diagnosis. For those who live a gluten-free life-style, Custom Choice Cereal aims to introduce normalcy and variety into the cereal bowl and to offer relief from diet anxiety.
What we thought: The "cerealization" process was fun and super easy. First you pick your base, ours was cinnamon granola. Then you add your fruits, nuts and seeds. We chose apples, raisins, cranberries and almonds. The whole time you are creating your mix a Nutrition Fact Sheet is keeping tally on the side of your order and with each ingredient you add, it tells you the daily amount of each vitamin, sugars, protein etc. I thought that was one of the neatest features:) You get to name your mix and a special code is assigned to each mix for easy re-ordering. The variety of add-ins is crazy huge and the possibilities are nearly limitless! They also offer a list of favorites in case you don't feel up to creating your very own mix. Our cereal creation was delivered within 2 days of making it and it was deemed delicious by every member of our family! I absolutely love the idea of a tasty, healthy, mix-it-yourself cereal that has a speedy delivery time. These mixes would be great not only for back-to-school breakfasts, but as convenient good-for-you, on-the-go snacks.
