We recently had the chance to try out a pair of Real Kids Shades (RKS) and learn more about the Star Pupils program from Prevent Blindness America.
About the partnership:
"Prevent Blindness America has partnered with RKS (Real Kids Shades), a company that manufactures UV-blocking sunglasses for children and infants. RKS has designed a pair of infant sunglasses with proceeds from the purchases going to the new children's eye health program "Star Pupils," from Prevent Blindness America, a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting vision health. This is a fun gift idea that also helps promote a worthy cause!
UV eye protection is essential to maintain healthy eyesight. Children are particularly susceptible to the sun's damaging rays, because they typically spend more time outdoors than adults, and the lenses of their eyes are more transparent. And just because it is cold outside, does not mean the suns rays are not damaging."
About Star Pupils:
"Healthy Eyes for Healthy Futures
As a program of Prevent Blindness America, Star Pupils is a national vision and eye health education program that gives parents the tools they need to help make eye health a priority for their kids. By visiting StarPupils.org, parents can receive essential information on everything from common eye problems in children to eye safety. In addition, StarPupils.org has a free one-of-a-kind comprehensive database that provides information on individual state requirements of what vision care is needed prior to enrolling kids in school. For more information visit starpupils.org."

What we thought: Here in Texas, it is sunny about 360 days of the year so sunglasses are necessary for the whole family:) Little D loves to wear them, but our issue has always been keeping them on his eyes, especially when he was younger. His new RKS provide a solution:) The band keeps them perfectly in place at all times. He really likes these glasses. I like knowing that they are actually protecting his eyes...we've been through so many pairs of sunglasses and I know that not all of them have been 100% UV protected. D is also known as the "Glasses Breaker"...he has broken several pair of B's eyeglasses and too many pairs of sunglasses to mention, so I like knowing that his RKS are durable and shatterproof:) They also come in cool colors and styles for older kids too. Overall, these glasses give me piece of mind that my little ones eyes are safely protected against the sun's damaging rays. A pair of RKS would be the perfect gift or stocking stuffer for the kiddo in your life! ABCD Diaries gives RKS and the Star Pupils program an A+!!
Disclosure: ABCD Diaries was given a pair of RKS for review purposes only. We were in no other way compensated. The opinions expressed in this post are ours and ours alone.
I would give them to my niece.
