9-year-old D got to try out Challenger's British Soccer Camp this summer and he absolutely loved it! Signing up was a breeze and the camp comes with a free t-shirt and soccer ball handed out day one of camp. There were about 25 kids signed up for camp this year and we got 3 amazingly energetic and upbeat coaches, Elliot from the UK, Diarmuid from Ireland and Vitor from Brazil.
Every day, the 3 hour half-day camp consisted of warm-ups and soccer drills with campers being split up into 3 age groups, one group to each coach. Drills were about 2 minutes each with plenty of water breaks (a must in our ridiculously hot and humid Texas coast weather:) Then after a group snacktime where the older and younger kiddos got to combine for fun stories and jokes from the coaches, the 3 groups formed 4 mixed teams for daily "World Cup" mini games, giving plenty of time for campers to try out their newly learned skills. Each team picks a country and throughout the week they are given "homework" that encourages them to learn more about their country and share with the group on the following day. What a fun way to get the kiddos thinking and communicating!
The week is finished up with a closing ceremony celebration where the coaches hand out certificates with encouragement for their campers and the winners of the "World Cup" are crowned.
Throughout the entire week the kiddos were given excellent instruction and plenty of praise to keep their spirits high.
D is already asking if we can sign him up for British Soccer Camp next year! That's a sure sign of a great experience:)
