It's so easy for my kiddos to fall into the "glow face" trap when they have spare time on their hands. Getting sucked in to electronics is pretty common around here if we don't make sure to distract them with screen-free options. Winning Moves recently sent us a collection of games that make great screen-free boredom busters!
We got to try out the board game 13 Dead End Drive, the building strategy game Kozo and the card game Stink Bug.
Anybody remember this game? It was a blast from the past for me:)
13 Dead End Drive first hit the scene in 1994. Now this fan favorite is back, by popular demand, to entertain a whole new generation. Your goal is to be the last surviving heir and inherit Aunt Agatha's fortune. Which one of her motley crew of friends and employees will it be?
It's kind of a mix between Mouse Trap and Clue and the kiddos love it! It is a fun, fairly quick game and perfect for summertime sleuthing.
This 3-dimensional wooden stacking game first gained popularity in Asia. It can be played by 2 players or teams in a head-to-head battle. Whether you play competitively or cooperatively, Kozo required strategic play and a nimble touch.
This game is a bit like Jenga, but IMO, requires a lot more skill and strategy thanks to the balancing blocks. Really gets the kiddos thinking about cause and effect and the principals of physics...action and reaction. Tons of fun and can be played pretty quickly.
Everyone is playing in the pile of leaves including some funny little bugs! Choose a leaf on your turn and try to make a match. Turn over a Love Bug card and share the love by giving a card to another player. The Sneak Bug card lets you sneak a card away from an opponent. Butterflies are wild and add to your score. Lookout for the Stink Bug! If he shows his stinky self you'll lose all the unmatched cards in your collection. The player with the most pairs of matched leaves at the end of the game is the winner!
This is a bit like a mash up of Go Fish and Old Maid, perfect for a quick and fun card game this summer!
Check out Winning Games for more great screen-free options for the family this summer!
